The townscape of Ettringen is characterized by volcanic rock extracted in quarries during industrialization. The Hochsimmerturm is Ettringen’s landmark.

Climbing

The Ettringen climbing area is located in basalt quarries between Mayen, Ettringen, and Kottenheim at the foot of the Hochsimmer. There, climbers can enjoy crack, dihedral, and edge climbing on grippy volcanic rock. The Great Wall at Ettringer Lay is a destination for sport climbers.
