Forest and views around Kürrenberg

Kürrenberg is located directly beside the Mayen Municipal Forest. From here, numerous circular hiking trails lead to viewpoints overlooking the Eifel and the Nitz Valley. The Reiningweg is particularly specific: the circular hiking trail is 5.3 kilometres long, runs through the Kürrenberg Forest, circles the Bleiberg and offers views of the Nitz Valley.

Another hiking option is the Förstersteig Dream Trail. The circular hike leads through various stream valleys and opens up panoramic views of the Eifel. Unlike the Reiningweg, the focus here is not on the Bleiberg, but on the succession of several stream valleys and the breadth of the panoramic views.

A level trail for practical planning

The wheelchair hiking trail begins and ends at the car park on the Reiningweg. It is approximately 3.2 kilometres long, takes about one hour and has only slight differences in elevation. The trail is easy and level, and is particularly suitable for wheelchairs, pushchairs and walking frames. There are numerous places to rest and two shelters along the route. The tour is recommended for the warmer months, especially from April to September.

The Reiningweg covers 5.3 kilometres and circles the Bleiberg, while the wheelchair hiking trail is approximately 3.2 kilometres long and has only slight differences in elevation. The approximate duration of one hour refers to the wheelchair hiking trail.

Mountain biking, freeriding and a climbing forest

Kürrenberg is also home to the official MY-Trail mountain biking and freeride route. It is located in the Kürrenberg district of Mayen and is just under 500 metres long. The route therefore appeals to a different interest than the circular hiking trails: the focus is on mountain biking and freeriding along a short route. Anyone wishing to include this activity in their stay can plan the MY-Trail as a separate item on their itinerary.

The Vulkanpark Climbing Forest is located between Mayen and Mayen-Kürrenberg on the B 258, in the middle of the forest in the Eastern Eifel. Unlike the MY-Trail, the climbing forest is not in the district, but between Mayen and Mayen-Kürrenberg.

Church and local history

The Catholic Church of St. Bernhard stands in Mayen-Kürrenberg. It was built in 1900/1901 as a neo-Romanesque hall church. Those who wish to consider more than just trails and sporting activities during their stay can also take a look at the architectural history of the district.

Kürrenberg's history also includes events from the time of the witch hunts. In 1551, the innocent Kürrenberg women Veiten Wittib, Heuser Anna, Emmerich Hey, Girhatz and Kirsten Jammers were among those executed at the stake. Schinhengst was a place of execution during the witch hunts.
