Culture and History

The parish church of St. Wendelinus stands in the Kirmutscheid district. The building dates predominantly from the 15th century and features restored ceiling paintings. Historical furnishings include bells from 1489, 1490, and 1519, a Baroque altar from the 17th century, and wooden sculptures from the 17th century depicting John the Baptist and Saint Wendelin.

The former Müllenwirft pilgrimage chapel was built in the 16th century. The present-day chapel is regarded as a meeting place for pilgrims on devotional walks. The former pilgrimage site was later converted into an estate, which was sold for demolition in 1884. A smaller chapel already stood at Müllenwirft before 1500; surviving documents relating to it date from 1523 and 1529.

The old Kirmutscheid village church is considered a picturesque subject for artists and photographers. The old village church, the former rectory, and the former school stand on a hill that the Trierbach surrounds on three sides.
