Discover Niederadenau: Nature, Local History and Cycling Routes

Niederadenau Between Nature and Local History

Choosing accommodation in Niederadenau can be guided by specific features of the village. These include a natural monument, several buildings and small historic monuments, as well as two cycling routes with different route profiles. This allows you to tailor your stay more closely to your interests in the landscape, architectural heritage or a cycling tour.

Juniper Area as a Natural Monument

The Niederadenau juniper area is part of the village’s natural heritage. In Rhineland-Palatinate, it is classified as a natural monument and bears the designation ND-7131-373.

Architectural Heritage and Local History

The Catholic Church of St. Margaret is located at Adenauer Straße 29 and is a rubble-stone hall church dating from 1872. The term refers to a hall church built from rubble stone, thereby describing both the building method and the material used.

Further historic landmarks are spread across various streets. Near Adenauer Straße 17 stands a wayside cross of the niche type dating from 1724. At Brückenstraße 1 there is a plastered half-timbered house with a bread oven, probably dating from the 18th century. At Mittelstraße 2 there is also a half-timbered Streckhof farmstead with post-and-beam construction, a bread oven and a forge dating from the 18th or 19th century. The church, wayside cross and half-timbered houses are located within Niederadenau on Adenauer Straße, Brückenstraße and Mittelstraße.

Cycling Routes with Different Route Features

For the cycling tour, the day trip on the Ahr Cycle Route and the Eifel Volcano Cycle Route reaches Niederadenau after approximately 2 km on a largely straight and flat cycle path. In Niederadenau, it turns left into Brückenstraße, briefly climbs uphill and then briefly descends again before continuing towards Dümpelfeld. If you are planning the day trip in sections, you can treat the short climb on Brückenstraße and the subsequent descent as a separate section of the route before the continuation towards Dümpelfeld begins there.

A second option is the “Adenau Discovery Tour – In the Footsteps of the Mills” cycling route. It passes through Niederadenau and Dümpelfeld along the edge of the forest. In addition to the route via the Ahr Cycle Route and the Eifel Volcano Cycle Route, this provides another connection with its own thematic name and a different landscape setting. This distinction may be relevant when choosing accommodation if you wish to base your daily planning on the route described or on a route along the edge of the forest. For tour planning, the forest edge can be planned as a separate section of the Discovery Tour.

Practical Local Reference Point at the Village Community Centre

The Niederadenau Village Community Centre is located between the sports field and the playground. It has a fully equipped kitchenette, crockery, a covered extension and shelter, as well as toilets. Reservation enquiries are possible.

For further regional orientation, you can also include Quiddelbach, Reifferscheid, Dümpelfeld, Nürburg, Meuspath, Herschbroich, Wimbach and Kottenborn.
