Hiking the Hohe Straße themed circular trail

The Hohe Straße themed circular trail is 14 kilometres long and passes through three villages in the municipality of Siegbach. Along the way, you pass two viewpoints; the route involves a total elevation gain of 308 metres. The distance and elevation gain are two practical figures to help plan your day, while the viewpoints provide additional stops along the route.

The trail follows a trade route first established by the Celts and newly fortified during the Napoleonic era. The region's mining history also features repeatedly along the trail: mining shaped the region's economy for centuries. The route thus connects its course and viewpoints with a history that extends beyond the individual villages.

Schloßberg and its viewpoint

Schloßberg is the highest point in the municipality of Siegbach. At its summit is a viewing platform with a stone orientation board. Directional arrows identify landmarks in the landscape and help visitors make sense of the view. If you want to include the municipality's highest point in your plans, this is a clearly marked point of reference; the board also helps you interpret the view.

Cycling routes and nature adventure pool

The routes of two cycle paths can be easily distinguished near the nature adventure pool in Siegbach-Eisemroth. The Seenradweg runs from the Perftalsperre reservoir to the Aartalsee and passes right by the pool. The Salzböde-Radweg also runs near the pool, but not directly alongside it. If you want to combine your cycle ride with a visit to the pool, this difference in the routes is useful to know.

At the nature adventure pool, a snack bar invites swimmers, hikers and cyclists to enjoy its sun terrace. From there, you can look out over the pool and the surrounding countryside. Nearby Aartalsee is not in Siegbach, but in the neighbouring municipality of Bischoffen; it is Hesse's second-largest lake by surface area. The lake and the pool are therefore two distinct points of interest to consider when planning activities in the surrounding area.

Village history in Übernthal

The Alte Schule Übernthal stands in the centre of the village. Built by residents in 1781, it served as a school and church hall. Its imposing oak timber frame features construction details characteristic of its time. The building thus offers a tangible insight into the architectural and local history of Übernthal, distinct from the viewpoints and trail experiences around the Hohe Straße.

Cultural attractions in the Lahn-Dill district

The wider travel region of the Lahn-Dill district also offers other cultural attractions. In Wetzlar, the Lottehaus commemorates Goethe's meeting with Charlotte Buff and the summer of 1772. Two rooms on the first floor house a permanent exhibition on the origins and impact of Goethe's first novel, “The Sorrows of Young Werther”. Also in Wetzlar, the Optikparcours invites visitors to experiment with and discover optical phenomena; it includes a walk-in kaleidoscope.

In Dillenburg, Villa Grün presents objects and detailed depictions of industrial and artisanal production in the Dill region across more than 20 rooms. The basement also houses a multimedia mining exhibition. The attractions in Wetzlar and Dillenburg complement Übernthal's local history with literary, optical, industrial and mining themes from the Lahn-Dill district.
