Dietzhölztal lies at the foot of the Rothaar Mountains and in extensive woodland areas. The municipality is located in the Lahn-Dill-Bergland landscape between the Rothaar Mountains and the Westerwald.

Geographically, Dietzhölztal belongs to the northern part of the Lahn-Dill district in Hesse. The municipality is located near the tripoint of Hesse, North Rhine-Westphalia, and Rhineland-Palatinate.

Dietzhölztal has archaeological remains of a Celtic hillfort dating from the Early La Tène period. There are also a number of cultural monuments to explore.
