The Schaftlach Crucifix is thought to date from the Ottonian period. Its 193 cm-high body is made of hollowed-out limewood; the tree was probably felled around 970. The date of the crucifix’s creation and the date the tree was felled are therefore two separate details, each qualified by an element of uncertainty.

Unveiled in 1905, the Lion Monument in Waakirchen commemorates those who fell in the Peasants’ Battle. It provides a distinct historical focus alongside the crucifix. During the Kreuzritt, mounted pilgrims are blessed with the relic of the Cross. The ride takes place around the time when the patronal feast was originally celebrated on May 3, the Feast of the Finding of the Cross. For a shorter outing, the easy circular tour to the former Schloß Wallenburg starts at Miesbach railway station and is listed as 4.7 kilometres long, taking 1 hour 15 minutes; there is an opportunity to stop for refreshments. The Miesbacher Stadlbergrunde is a family-friendly circular route of moderate difficulty: it starts at Habererplatz next to the town square, covers 8.1 kilometres and takes 2 hours 30 minutes. The two circular routes therefore differ in both length and time required, as well as in their stated difficulty level. Check route details again before your outing.

For culinary interests, the Miesbach GENUSStouren combine a journey through time with regional specialities and international cuisine at shops, cafés, bistros, inns and trendy bars. Another reason to visit is the Green Market in Miesbach: it takes place on Thursdays from 6:30 am to 1:00 pm in the market square. If Thursday falls on a public holiday, the market is held on the preceding Wednesday. So be sure to check the date around public holidays.
