Marienstein: Church, Brewery and Rechelkopf

Marienstein brings together several specific points of interest: the Catholic filial church of the Assumption of Mary, a monument commemorating mining in the form of a headframe, the Marienstein Brewery, the Margarethenhof Golf Club and the hike to Rechelkopf.

The Filial Church of the Assumption of Mary

The Catholic filial church of the Assumption of Mary in Marienstein is a simple hall church with a recessed choir and a northeastern tower. It was built in 1927. Its architecture is not defined by elaborate forms, but by the clearly structured building. The choir is recessed in relation to the hall, while the northeastern tower is a distinctive part of the building’s external appearance. The restrained design remains clearly legible because the hall, choir and tower occupy different positions within the building.

The foundation stone for the filial church of St. Mary in Marienstein was laid on April 27, 1927. The church was solemnly consecrated on August 15, 1927. The dates place its construction and first consecration in the same year.

On July 2, 2006, the Assumption of Mary was reconsecrated during a solemn service by Abbot Gregor Zasche. The reconsecration marks a later chapter in the ecclesiastical history of the filial church.

Mining Memorial in the Village

Another focal point is dedicated to mining. In August 1987, a monument in the form of a headframe was erected to commemorate mining in Marienstein. It was initially built above the main road in what is now the Marienstein commercial area. The form of the headframe directly establishes the connection to mining and gives the monument a clearly recognizable appearance.

Marienstein Brewery

At the Marienstein Brewery, the brothers brew beers using traditional methods. This brewing tradition gives the village its own culinary character and complements the religious and mining themes with the production of beer. Brewing itself is the focus of this gastronomic point of interest.

Golf Club and Breakfast

Margarethenhof is a golf club located in the Marienstein district of Waakirchen, above Lake Tegernsee. Lake Tegernsee is therefore part of the golf club’s location description. At the hotel, the Steinberg restaurant also serves breakfast to non-hotel guests. Breakfast is therefore not exclusively available to hotel guests.

Easy Hike to Rechelkopf

A scenic Rechelkopf summit can be reached on an easy, shady hike starting in Marienstein. The trail leads from Marienstein to a clearly designated summit destination. Its large summit meadow is well suited for a picnic.

After reaching the summit, you can plan a break on the large summit meadow. The easy, shady route and the meadow at the summit give the excursion a clear progression from the starting point to the picnic spot.

Barbarafest 2024

The Barbarafest took place in Marienstein on December 1, 2024. The musical entertainment was provided by the Marienstein-Waakirchen brass band.
