Schliersee is located on the northeastern shore of the lake of the same name in the Bavarian Alps. The landscape is characterized by the natural lake and views of the surrounding mountains, including Aiplspitz and Jägerkamp. Geographically, Schliersee lies between the Tegernsee Valley and the Inn Valley, near the Austrian border; the surrounding mountains can be seen from the town.

Culture and History
St. Sixtus Church contains a Holy Trinity group by Erasmus Grasser, as well as wall and ceiling frescoes by Johann Baptist Zimmermann. The surrounding area is home to Tegernsee Abbey and the Dettendorf filial church of St. Korbinian. Schloß and the pilgrimage church, as well as Kufstein Fortress, are located in the wider regional area.

In the Schlierach-Leitzach Valley, family cycling tours pass through Schliersee and continue along the lake to Neuhaus. Other family cycling routes in the Schlierach-Leitzach Valley include Schliersee and connect the wider area between Irschenberg and Bayrischzell.
The regional family cycling tour can be combined with a return journey by train from Neuhaus via Schliersee, Hausham and Agatharied to Miesbach. In the area south of Schliersee, the cycling tour reaches the Wasmeier Open-Air Museum and the Josefsthal Waterfalls in Neuhaus. Along the family cycling tour, the area around Schliersee connects an adventure playground, cafés and peaceful meadows.
