Art and Local History in Glonn
St. John the Baptist Church in Glonn is a Rococo church built in 1778. Its furnishings include altar figures and a crucifix with the “Sorrowful Mother of God” by Joseph Götsch, a student of Ignaz Günther. The church thus combines a specific construction date and style with named furnishings and artists. For local history, it offers a different point of reference from the local history museum, which presents Glonn through pictures, works of art and everyday objects from earlier times.
The monastery school houses the local history museum in its attic, as well as the Klosterschule Gallery, run by the Cultural and Beautification Association. This brings two distinct cultural institutions together in one building: the museum displays objects and works that convey the history of this historic town, while the gallery belongs to the Cultural and Beautification Association. The monastery school also has a long history of events: since 1983, in addition to the annual exhibitions, 32 other events have been held there, including art exhibitions, lectures and commemorative exhibitions.
The local history museum is scheduled to open on the first Sunday of each month from 2:00 to 4:00 p.m.; it is closed in January, August and September. Check these hours before your visit.
