Trails and cycling routes

A second official hiking trail leads from the B 304 via Hinteregglburg and Lake Egglburg to the Forest and Environment Museum. Seven walks in natural surroundings can be combined with a visit to the museum.

Long-distance cycling routes also pass through the area: the Isar-Inn Panorama Trail and the Sempt-Mangfall Cycle Route run through Ebersberg or the surrounding district. In addition, there are ten cycling routes between 20 and 40 kilometres long, which run mainly along traffic-free paths through the Alpine foothills.

Nature and views

The 35-metre-high observation tower on Ludwigshöhe is considered a landmark of Ebersberg and the highlight of many walks. The tower has 169 steps and offers views across the Alpine foothills from the Berchtesgaden Alps to the Allgäu.

The Forest and Environment Museum is located next to the Ebersberg Forest. It explores the history of forest use and forest ecology, linking historical topics with modern environmental issues.

History and tradition

The historic town centre of Ebersberg, with its significant churches and buildings, is ideal for walking and lingering. Religious tradition includes the annual Titular Festival of the Brotherhood of St. Sebastian: it takes place on the first Sunday in July, and a relic procession follows a church service.

Ebersberg’s history is also closely connected with the pilgrimage to St. Sebastian. Pilgrims came here seeking the saint’s protection from the plague and sudden death. Ebersberg later became the most visited pilgrimage destination in Old Bavaria.

The InneHalten meditation route begins at the Antonius Chapel and leads via Haselbach and Kumpfmühle towards St. Sebastian Parish Church. The courtyard of the historic four-sided farmstead has evolved into a theatre courtyard and hosts a wide variety of activities.

In the district of Ebersberg, Bavarian pub culture is combined with regional produce, local specialities and beer from local breweries.
