Pilgrimage Church and Building History
The present-day parish and pilgrimage church of the Nativity of Mary in Anzing was built from 1677 to 1681 at the initiative of the Scapular Brotherhood. It remains a pilgrimage site to this day, centered on the miraculous image on the high altar. Its construction period and continuing significance as a pilgrimage site therefore sit side by side: the dates mark when the building was constructed, while the pilgrimage tradition continues into the present.
In the nave and choir, Zwergers’ predominantly geometric, linear stucco decoration shapes the design. The stucco adds an artistic dimension to the historical context, distinct from the building’s construction period and its function as a pilgrimage church. This makes it possible to distinguish both the religious significance of the Nativity of Mary and specific features of its interior design.
The Alte Post inn, a former postal station, stands at HirnerstraĂźe 2. It is a two-storey, plastered gable-roof building with two dormer projections, a Baroque portal and a steeply pitched roof. Dendrochronological analysis dates the building to 1676; it probably has a core dating from the 16th century. It was remodeled and extended in the 19th century. These details refer to different periods: a dendrochronological date, a probable older core, and a later remodeling and extension.
Landscape and Practical Information
The political municipality of Anzing, with its 18 districts, lies in a flat landscape east of an ancient moraine running north to south, on the northwestern edge of the Ebersberger Forst. As of December 15, 2025, Anzing was served by bus lines 446, 459, 461, 463, 465 and 470; 9410 was the former line number. On weekdays, there were more than 60 bus services each way between Anzing and Munich. The lines listed were integrated into the MVV public transport system, so MVV tickets were valid on them. Forest and Environmental Education in the Ebersberg Destination

The observation tower in the Ebersberger Forst has 169 steps; from the top, the view extends across the entire foothills of the Alps, from the Berchtesgaden Alps to the Allgäu. On exceptionally clear days, distant peaks over 3,000 metres high can also be seen. The Museum Wald und Umwelt has stood right next to the Ebersberger Forst since 2004 and focuses on the history of forest use and forest ecology.
The Ebersberger Forst environmental education center has been awarded the Bavarian quality seal “Umweltbildung.Bayern” and hosts events on education for sustainable development. These take place mostly outdoors and in the adjacent forest; visits by school classes and other groups are possible.
