Culture
The Church of Eglise Saint Pierre de Mercury contains 54 gilded wooden statues. The church also preserves elements dating from the 17th century and was remodelled in the 19th century by E. Melano. The church is open daily all year round and offers guided tours.
The Chapelle de la Ramaz was built in 1752 on the initiative of Joseph Chevalier as the Notre-Dame-Des-Neiges chapel. It is open daily all year round and freely accessible.
The Chapelle de la Soffaz dates from the early 17th century. Skeletons were found nearby that may date from the period of the Saracen occupation. The chapel has an altar with a portable consecration stone, above which stand statues of Saint Ferréol and Saint Bon. It too is open daily all year round and freely accessible.
The Chapelle des François is dedicated to Saint François de Salle and Saint Garin and was renovated in 1792. The Chapelle de la Frasse was built in 1699 and is dedicated to Saint-Germain, Notre-Dame du Puy and Saint-Jean l’Evangéliste. The Chapelle du Villard was built around 1630 and is dedicated to Bernard de Menthon, Sainte Marguerite and Saint Claude.
The Fort de Tamié is located in the municipalities of Plancherine and Mercury at the Col de Tamié. It was built in 1876 by 600 Italian workers and commanded the area around Albertville. The fort offers a walking trail, picnic areas and views of the surrounding valleys and mountain ranges. There is also an adventure course at the Fort de Tamié site.
