Hiking trails
The easy circular trail Le tour de Chichilianne is 4.2 kilometres long and takes around three hours. It starts and ends at the Place de la Fontaine in Chichilianne and runs along village ridges with viewpoints and information panels.
More challenging is Le Tour du Mont Aiguille: the difficult circular trail covers 17.5 kilometres, takes around six hours, and starts and ends at the hamlet of Richardière in Chichilianne. The route enters the area of the Réserve naturelle des Hauts-Plateaux du Vercors several times, where special visitor regulations apply. The information centre in Chichilianne provides information about the village and its hamlets, Mont Aiguille, the Parc naturel régional du Vercors and its nature reserve.
Le Pas de l’Aiguille is a marked out-and-back hike covering 8.3 kilometres and taking around three hours. At the summit, you can discover the Nécropole Nationale du Pas de l’Aiguille and the nearby cave where members of the Resistance hid during a German attack in the Second World War.
Nature and landscape
Mont Aiguille reaches 2,087 metres and is an isolated mesa on the eastern edge of the Vercors. The Les Fourchaux route offers views of the cliffs of the Rochers du Parquet and Mont Aiguille.
The “Sous le regard du géant Mont-Aiguille†route leads to several hamlets of Chichilianne featuring typical Trièves architecture. Its information panels cover geology, history, art, biodiversity, human life and legends.
Culture and history
The Romanesque church of Chichilianne is characteristic of Trièves Romanesque architecture; its portal consists of two moulded bands. Chichilianne preserves a compact village structure centred around a medieval church, communal bread ovens and fountains.
The themed trail Sentier des Artisans de la Terre runs between Chichilianne and the hamlet of Trézanne. Information panels focus on agricultural life in the Trièves. The trail is open year-round and freely accessible.
The Les Fourchaux route also leads to a monument honouring the Resistance fighters of the Vercors. The “Rando Châteaux†route leads to the Château de Passières.
