Culture and History
The interior of the Château de Sassenage retains original features, including a stone grand staircase, a vaulted kitchen with a monumental fireplace, polychrome parquet floors, and furniture bearing the marks of the Hache cabinetmakers.
The Château de Sassenage can only be visited as part of a guided tour: on the first Sunday of each month, except in July and August, at 10:30 a.m., and from 14 July to 15 August on Mondays, Tuesdays, Wednesdays, Thursdays and Sundays at 3, 4 and 5 p.m.
The Church of Saint-Pierre de Sassenage was built on the banks of the Furon in the 11th century. Its bell tower, chapel and the ensemble with the tomb of the Church of Saint-Pierre de Sassenage are partially listed as historic monuments.
Nature and Trails
The Marais des Engenières has been protected since 2002 by a prefectural decree for the protection of biotopes. The ENS Marais des Engenières is a wetland at the foot of the foothills of the Vercors.
At the Marais des Engenières, a landscaped trail leads through the wetland, where visitors can learn about its history and the animals and plants that live there. The Chemin des Cuves is located in the Vercors Regional Nature Park.
The Chemin des Cuves is 1.5 km long and has an elevation gain of around 150 m. The approximate walking time for the round trip is 1.5 hours; in dry weather, the trail is considered easy.
The Grotte Les Cuves de Sassenage is classified as natural heritage. It offers a guided route through underground galleries, natural pools and the Flint Gallery, as well as a sound-and-light presentation of the legend of MĂ©lusine.
Other Activities
The pump track in Sassenage is freely accessible to bicycles, balance bikes, scooters, inline skates and skateboards. It has two urban riding tracks: a blue track for advanced riders with an intermediate difficulty level and a red track for experienced riders.
The pump track can be reached from the car park of the Halle Jeannie Longo through the entrance gate.
Getting There
The Château de Sassenage can be reached from tram line A at the Fontaine La Poya terminus by taking bus line 20 towards Veurey Mairie or bus line 50 towards Sassenage les Côtes and getting off at the Château stop.
