Geographical setting
A notable site is the Rocher du Cornillon, which is classified and preserves remnants of fortification walls as well as a water cistern. The Rocher du Cornillon is a destination for walks and can be reached via several hiking trails. From the summit, there is a view over the valley.
Culture
The Chapelle du Palluel was built in the 17th century as an oratory from Fontanil-Cornillon limestone. In the 18th century, its owners converted it into a chapel. Visitors can enter the Chapelle du Palluel and admire its religiously themed frescoes.
The Parcours culturel offers a numbered, downloadable map for discovering the sculptures and frescoes of Fontanil-Cornillon. The Parcours des livres-chevalets introduces walkers to the cultural, geological and natural history of Fontanil-Cornillon. Trails and nature
The La Fontaniloise race is 12 kilometres long, includes 800 metres of elevation gain, and starts and finishes in the centre of Fontanil-Cornillon. The Trail du Néron reached its fifth edition in 2026 and started in the municipalities of Saint-Egrève, Fontanil-Cornillon and Saint-Martin-le-Vinoux.
The Jardin de la Biodiversité includes refuge areas specifically created for fauna and flora. These refuge areas are designed to meet the needs of bees, butterflies, hedgehogs and other insects or small mammals. The Jardin de la Biodiversité also includes explanatory panels and educational activities about the importance of environmental protection.
