Hiking trails and landscape
The Le lac du Vallon hike starts and ends in Les Bosses in Chantelouve. It is a difficult, 14.1 km out-and-back route with 1,374 m of ascent and 1,374 m of descent. The route follows a waterfall descending from the lake and then reaches terrain shaped by glaciers.
The path to the Cabane de Pissegui begins in Chantelouve near Les Bosses; the hut is located at an altitude of 2,350 m.
The Forêt des Roudons loop in Chantelouve is 8.1 km long, has 490 m of ascent and is rated moderate in difficulty. It passes through Europe’s largest alder forest. The loop showcases dams and weirs designed to contain erosion and protect against flooding. The forest landscape has been shaped since the late 19th century by long-term forestry work to stabilize the soil.

The Faille du Col d’Ornon is a major geological fault in the French Alps in the Isère département. It lies within the territory of Chantelouve, Ornon and other municipalities and has made important contributions to understanding the formation of the Alps.
