Nature

At Mont Granier, the path along the northern face, direct access to the cross, and the route to Pas de la Porte are closed for safety reasons. The mountain can be climbed via Pas des Barres, Balme à Colomb, or Pas de l’Alpette.

Cernon is considered an important area for speleology in the Chartreuse.

Wine and crafts

Chapareillan is one of the five municipalities in the Chartreuse Park that cover the entire wine-growing area of the Apremont and Abymes crus. Both crus belong to the AOC family of Vins de Savoie, which has been recognized as a controlled designation of origin since 1973.

The 5.6 km circular Bellecombette hike on the slopes of Chapareillan passes through the vineyards of the Savoie wines; the elevation gain is 171 m. In Chapareillan, Nature en Bulles offers tours of its soap workshop by prior appointment. The Nature en Bulles craft boutique also showcases works by four other local artisans.

Hiking trails and history

The fourth stage of the GR®965 from Col de Marcieu to Chapareillan (Bellecombe) is 21.3 km long and has 731 m of ascent and 1,121 m of descent. Accommodation is available along the GR®965 in the hamlet of Bellecombe.

The viewpoint at Bellecombe offers panoramic views of the Belledonne range, the Grésivaudan Valley, Mont Blanc, and the surrounding Alpine mountain ranges. The ruins of the castle in Bellecombe are located along a stage of the GR®965.

The Sentier des Charbonniers leads at an altitude of more than 780 metres to at least two former charcoal pits or charcoal-burning kilns. Information panels there explain charcoal production in the 1940s.
