Nature

The Eau d’Olle Express takes visitors from Allemond to the Oz 3300 station in eight minutes. In summer, it provides access to hiking trails, mountain bike routes, bike parks, and mountain lifts in the Espace Alpe d’Huez, without having to drive between the valley and the stations.

Lac du Verney is a 75-hectare mountain lake at an altitude of 725 metres and is also an artificial water reservoir. At the Base nautique du Lac du Verney, swimming, diving, motorboating, and water skiing are prohibited; windsurfing, canoeing, stand-up paddleboarding, wing foiling, and pedal boating are permitted.

The York Mallory hike from Rivier d’Allemond leads to the site of the plane crash of 14 November 1944 above the hamlet. It is 7.2 kilometres long, takes around four and a half hours, and is classified as moderately difficult.

The Aiguille de l’Eau d’Olle is a 33-metre-high outdoor climbing wall with three sides, around ten routes, and numerous variations rated from 4 to 6b/c.

The Voie verte runs from Allemond via Le Bourg-d’Oisans to Venosc and connects six valleys in Oisans. It allows cyclists to avoid the departmental road.

History and Culture

The Maison du Bouquetin presents the history, habitat, seasonal diet, social behaviour, and predators of the Alpine ibex, as well as conservation and research measures in the Belledonne Massif. The Espace York Mallory commemorates the disappearance of British Air Marshal Sir Trafford Leigh-Mallory in a plane crash over Rivier d’Allemond in November 1944.

Under Louis XIII and Louis XIV, Allemond had mining activity and housed royal foundries where mainly silver, lead, and copper ore from the local mines was smelted. The old Allemond around the church preserves the traditional character of the villages of Oisans.

The summer Monday market in Allemond offers fruit and vegetables, butcher’s and charcuterie products, regional products, cheese, and clothing. Ferme de l’Edelweiss offers goat’s cheese, Camembert, Raclette, yoghurt, terrines, and charcuterie products.
