Geographical location

Vénosc lies at the foot of the Parc national des Écrins in the Vénéon Valley. Vénosc is accessed via the D1091 départemental road. The tourist information office in Vénosc provides information about hikes, events and guided cultural tours.

Activities

The Vénosc mountain biking trail in the Les Deux Alpes Bike Park is a technical and fast descent through shale quarry terrain and woodland; access is via the Télécabine de Venosc.

The Via ferrata des Perrons begins in Vénosc. It takes four hours, has a difficulty rating of D and involves an ascent of 500 metres. From the Télécabine de Venosc car park, it can be reached via a 45-minute walk. The hike to the Lac et refuge de la Muzelle also begins in Vénosc. A guided tour lasting around two hours through the village of Vénosc and its surroundings is recommended.

Nature

A themed nature trail in Vénosc explains the volcanic formation of the area through a basalt flow, the Brèche de Venosc, a rare stand of oak trees, charcoal, the use of hemp and the local flora.

Culture and History

The cultural and historical themed trail highlights chapels, the Château de la Muzelle, the town hall, the school and sundials. The remains of the shale quarries near Alpe de Venosc are still visible; the quarries were in operation until the 1960s. Another trail in Vénosc uses information panels and eyewitness accounts to explain the extraction and processing of shale.

The Church of Saint-Pierre in Vénosc is a Romanesque church dating from the 9th century that was later altered and extended. It contains a Baroque altarpiece from the 17th century. Its bell tower houses the oldest bell found in Oisans, dating from 1622. The arts and crafts shops and workshops in Vénosc offer presentations of their savoir-faire as well as creative workshops.
