Landscape and water
The area of Vatín is home to numerous ponds with shoreline wetlands, as well as wet meadows where peat bog species are frequently found. The Návesník fire-water reservoir is located directly next to the chapel.
Chapel and local history
In the southern part of Vatín, the Chapel of Our Lady of Sorrows stands by a pond. It was built between 1888 and 1891 and consecrated in 1890. In 1989, the chapel and the adjacent village square with pond were reconstructed.
The oldest written record of Vatín known to date comes from 1353. In the 1880s, the village was affected by four devastating fires. The Štursa family originally came from Vatín; among its members was the academic sculptor Jan Štursa (1880–1925).
Pilgrimage and gravel route
On July 25, 2025, the one-day walking pilgrimage from Sirákov to Slavkovice passed through Vatín. The 56-kilometre gravel-bike route “Gravel around the Vysočina Star” follows field roads through Vatín to the Vetelské ponds.
