Obyčtov is located in the Bítešská vrchovina uplands, in a picturesque valley of the Oslava River. The landscape is complemented by several mountains in the surrounding area: Dědkovská hora, Rosička and Blažkov are located near Obyčtov, while Mount Světka lies in the wider regional vicinity.
Culture
The Church of the Visitation of the Virgin Mary in Obyčtov is a protected cultural monument, registered under the number ÚSKP 34105/7-4317. It was completed in 1735 based on a design by Jan Blažej Santini-Aichel. Its unusual single-nave floor plan comprises a polygonal building with four rectangular chapel annexes, resembling the body of a turtle.
Obyčtov is also home to the Rychta, a multi-storey building dating from the mid-18th century.
Pilgrimages and the townscape
Pilgrimages are a tradition in Obyčtov; the pilgrimage tradition includes one pilgrimage associated with the Visitation of the Virgin Mary and a second associated with the Nativity of the Virgin Mary.
Since 2010, a giant turtle by the sculptor Michal Olšiak has stood in a park by the river in Obyčtov. In the park on the bank of the Oslava River, the concrete statue Želva is located along a red-marked hiking trail.
Transport
The nearby Ostrov nad Oslavou railway station is integrated into an integrated transport system.
