Around Borová Lada, the trail to Chalupská slať begins at the Svinná Lada car park, 1 km from Borová Lada in the direction of Kvilda. The trail is 1 km long and has a low level of difficulty. At the end, you can enjoy a view of the Czech Republic’s largest peat bog lake, covering an area of 1.2 hectares, as well as the surrounding peat bog area.
Nature
The breeding ponds of the Rybí líheň Borová Lada fish hatchery can be reached via a flat grassy area with no incline. In July and August, a public guided tour takes place there every Tuesday at 10 a.m., accompanied by a member of the fish hatchery staff.
Sovinec Borová Lada is an outdoor aviary complex featuring owls from the Šumava forests, located in an old quarry near Borová Lada. Observation peepholes also allow visitors to observe details of the owls’ lives, such as nesting and feeding.
The LES nature trail is suitable for families with small children.
Culture and History
The original Chapel of the Exaltation of the Holy Cross (St. Anne’s Chapel), dedicated to Saint Anne, was built in 1860. In 1956, the chapel and the adjoining Stations of the Cross were demolished; both were restored in 2006.
Trails and Places
Knížecí Pláně belongs to the municipality of Borová Lada and is an important junction of hiking and cycling trails. The cemetery and the foundations of the church façade have been restored there.
The 62-km Vltavský Circuit passes through Kvilda, Knížecí Pláně, Strážný, Lenora, Horní Vltavice and Borová Lada before returning to Kvilda.
