Nature

Near Strážný and the Řasnice River lies the Splavské rašeliniště Nature Monument. It protects a valley peat bog with typical vegetation. From the former Salzer Mill to Hliniště, the Řasnice displays wild landscape scenes that have remained almost untouched by humans.

The Řasnatá Vltava route leads via Lenora, Vlčí Jámy, Řasnice, the Splavské rašeliniště and the Radvanovický hřbet back to Lenora. It features moderate, locally steep ascents and descents, sections of waterlogged ground, slippery stones, tall grass and forest paths; climbing over fallen trees is also one of its characteristics. These different trail conditions provide you with specific points of reference for personally planning the route.

When personally planning the Řasnatá Vltava route, you can assess the sequence of the places mentioned as well as the terrain and ground conditions separately. The description connects these aspects without reducing them to a single type of route. This keeps the information about the route clear and factually comparable.

When arranging accommodation in Řasnice, travel dates, room category and cancellation conditions can be incorporated into your personal travel planning. This keeps the organisational aspects of the stay distinct and manageable alongside the location’s natural, trail-related and historical themes.

History

Řasnice probably originated around 1720; the place was first mentioned in 1790. The buildings of Řasnice developed along the line of the Golden Trail between Vimperk and Strážný. Historically, Řasnice is regarded as a loosely laid-out short forest-strip settlement. The former name Pumperle was derived from a water pumping station (“pumpe”).

The preserved ensemble of the former Salzer Mill in Řasnice comprises the mill and two associated houses. The former Salzer Mill on the Řasnice retains its original building fabric and numerous characteristic details. Near Strážný, there is also a system of preserved trail remnants of the Vimperk branch of the Golden Trail, nearly 1 km long; its end lies about 100 m north of the Řasnice stream.

Among the best-preserved buildings in Řasnice are houses Nos. 20 and 24. South of Řasnice, a mill was built on the right bank of the Řasnice in the second half of the 19th century. The original residential buildings in Řasnice belonged to the Šumava log-house type; shingles were used as roofing and to clad the vertical weather-exposed sides. The Tomaschkových farmstead forms part of the historic villagescape of Řasnice.

Several different points of reference stand alongside one another in the historic villagescape: the loosely laid-out settlement form, individual well-preserved houses, the mill complexes and the construction style of Šumava log houses. Considering them together connects the settlement structure, preserved individual buildings and traditional materials without equating these features.
