The Baška Reservoir is primarily used for recreation and is suitable for swimming and water sports; however, it is not intended as a source of drinking water. A walking path approximately 3 km long runs along its shores, offering views of the surrounding landscape.
Culture and History
The Roman Catholic Church of St. Wenceslas in Baška is a filial church of the Skalice parish and was solemnly consecrated on 22 October 1933. It was built through the efforts of devoted members of the St. Wenceslas church unit.
A chapel near the “Kotva” restaurant in Baška was consecrated during a local celebration. According to local legend, the chapel was built at Radovým, in a place where a church is said to have once stood.
Events and Local Character
Baška Žije is a one-day music festival on the shore of the Baška Reservoir, held from 2 p.m. to midnight; it has already been held for the fourth time.
GulášFest is a culinary competition involving the preparation of goulash in a kettle, where non-competition goulash dishes are offered for public tasting. This is followed by a public vote and the decision of a professional jury.
Things to Do
The “Okolo Bašky cestička” tourist hike is associated with Baška; one edition was 14 km long. A signposted hiking circuit entitled “To the Most Beautiful Sunsets” leads along the lake shore and past Baška railway station. The circuit is 21 km long and moderately difficult.
