Víchová nad Jizerou stretches up the slopes from the Jizera Valley and offers views of the panorama of the western Krkonoše. There is an elevation difference of 200 metres between the lower and upper parts of the village. The Jizera at its confluence with the Jizerka in Horní Sytová is recommended as a place to cool off in hot weather.
Landscape
Parts of Víchová nad Jizerou lie in the third zone and parts in the protected zone of KRNAP. The municipality is home to important sites with protected plant species, including burnt orchid, broad-leaved orchid, Turk’s cap lily and two-leaved white helleborine.
Culture and History
The folk architecture of Víchová nad Jizerou includes the listed farmstead No. 85. The village has three independent bell towers, one in each of its three districts. Danehlova lípa is one of two protected notable trees in Víchová nad Jizerou; Lípa na Koutě is also one of the village’s two protected notable trees.
The medieval fortification of Hrádek is located in V Bučí above the municipal library of Víchová nad Jizerou, in the direction of Danehlova lípa. Ceramic finds date the site to the period from the 13th century to the beginning of the 17th century. Today, Hrádek is badly damaged: the inner platform has been partially removed, while the remains of an artificially constructed ditch are still visible.
Trails
The academic landscape painter František Kaván was born in Víchovská Lhota, a district of Víchová nad Jizerou. The Víchovská Trail is marked in red, yellow and blue, is 11 km long and runs along wide paths; it is also suitable for cyclists. Along the trail is “Zarostlá místa Kavánových obrazů”, a permanent landscape gallery featuring twelve reproductions of Kaván’s works in wooden frames. The Víchovská Trail can be divided into two sections; public transport can be used for this purpose.
