Prague-East District combines cultural history with protected landscapes. The Brandýs nad Labem Château is a national cultural monument, built on the site of an original Gothic castle; Voděradské bučiny forms an extensive forest complex on the right bank of the Jevanský Stream and is protected for its beech stands.

Culture

The Říčany Museum hosts themed exhibitions, practical workshops, educational programmes and public events. The Říčany Astro Trail begins at the entrance to Říčany Geopark at Masarykovo náměstí 71. In Říčany, the Dvorek open-air exhibition presents agriculture from the early 20th century; its exhibits include a farm cart dating from 1929.

The Malé máslovické muzeum másla is dedicated to butter production and features an interactive exhibition whose exhibits can be tried out in practice. The museum is wheelchair accessible and provides visitors with visual impairments with worksheets in Braille.

The modern multimedia exhibition “Crime and Punishment” is located in the Upper Château in Panenské Břežany. It also includes a replica of the Pankrác guillotine. The Chapel of St Anne in Panenské Břežany was built from 1705 to 1707 according to plans by Jan Blažej Santini-Aichel and is considered one of his earliest works. The Panenské Břežany memorial complex is fully wheelchair accessible.

The Brandýs nad Labem Château was imperial property until 1918 and a preferred residence of Rudolf II.

Nature

The Máslovice educational trail introduces the natural and historical features of the Dolní Povltaví area. The Větrušická Gorge is known for its rocky slopes on the right bank of the Vltava.

Voděradské bučiny is also protected for its extensive beech stands and for forests showing frost weathering. The Voděradské bučiny educational trail is 8 km long and has 8 stations. Cycling routes 1, 0023, 0024, 0031 and 0085 run through the area.

The Káraný-Hrbáčkovy tůně protected area preserves natural eutrophic ponds, floodplain meadows, wetland habitats and floodplain forests.
