Berga combines a distinctive festival culture with historic buildings and a mountain panorama that is particularly impressive from the Santuari de Santa Maria de Queralt. The sanctuary is located at an altitude of 1,200 metres and offers wide views across Central Catalonia: towards the peaks of Ripollès, the plains of Solsonès, Montseny and Montserrat.

Els Elois is an old guild festival of the Confraria dels Elois in Berga. It was associated with the vast majority of the town's guilds and professions; the first record of the guild dates from 1379. The festival includes a Sunday horse procession that starts at Plaça de Santa Magdalena and stops at the steps of Sant Pere for a blessing. Els Elois ends at Plaça Sant Joan with the traditional Ballet de Déu.

History and Buildings

Berga's old town dates back to the 14th century and includes architectural elements that form part of the country's historical and cultural heritage. Portal de Santa Magdalena is the only surviving one of the seven town gates that once existed in Berga. Next to Font de la Pietat is a medieval washhouse with a mural depicting the history of Berga's washhouses.

Castell de Sant Ferran is located at the highest point of Berga. Its interior cannot be visited; from the outside, however, you can enjoy a view of Berga's streetscape. The historic Fonts del Vall spring is among the protected buildings and is classified as a Cultural Asset of Local Interest. The Church of Sant Francesc de Berga also has Neo-Gothic forms in its present appearance and is classified as a Cultural Asset of Local Interest.

The Church of Sant Joan is a Romanesque religious building from the 13th century, complemented by Gothic and Baroque elements added later. Capella de la Pietat dates from the 17th century. Molí de la Gratella is one of Berga's historic grain mills. Different periods and building functions provide several factual points of reference when comparing the town's history and architecture.
