Logatec: Hotels and Accommodation

Planinsko polje is a karst field covering more than 10 km² on the southern edge of the Municipality of Logatec.

Nature

Planinsko polje is regularly flooded several times a year, usually in spring and autumn; the floods can last up to two months. The southwestern part of Planinsko polje is protected as a landscape park. The Unica meanders across the karst field and disappears into swallow holes at Grčarevec.

Zelena-Dolina is a wooded area between Hotedršica and Medvedje Brdo, about 11 km northwest of Logatec, with forests, forest clearings and, above all, wet meadows. In the dolomite area, water collects through a system of springs and streams in the bed of the Hotenjka and flows south through the main valley towards Hotedršica. Zelena-Dolina is home to a rich variety of flora and fauna, including dragonflies, noble crayfish and yellow-bellied toads; the area, together with nearby Žejna-Dolina, is also known for several species of carnivorous plants. Because of its exceptionally diverse plant and animal life, Žejna-Dolina has been included in the Natura 2000 network as a special protected area.

Hiking and Cycling

The hike through Žejna-Dolina and Zelena-Dolina follows an easy, partly gravelled circular trail that takes about two hours; the trail is accessible year-round. At the same time, the hike passes through a valley with exceptionally diverse plant and animal life, including rare species.

The circular hike through Hotedršica includes a section with a climbing wall on a walled Notranjska hayrack, where visitors can climb under the guidance of a mentor.

The challenging Veliki krog cycling route has its designated start and finish in Zapolje and is almost 60 kilometres long. It leads through the Rovtarsko Hribovje hills with numerous viewpoints, mainly along quiet local roads with little traffic, passing several developed drinking-water springs and several inns where visitors can stop for refreshments.

The Ljubljana–Logatec cycling route provides access to the heart of the Notranjska region; Logatec can serve as a starting point for further excursions, and the return to Ljubljana is possible by bicycle or train.

History and Culture

St Catherine’s Church with its cemetery in Medvedje Brdo is an important part of the development of Baroque ecclesiastical architecture in the Logatec area. It reflects various architectural and artistic phases of development: from a late-medieval church built on the site of the Chapel of St Gabriel, through alterations in the 17th and 18th centuries, to the addition of the western bell tower and sacristy in the 19th century.

Lanišče Fortress is the only reconstructed part of the Claustra Alpium Iuliarum system in Slovenia. It stands on the western edge of the Hrušica Plateau above the still-visible route of a former Roman road that connected Aquileia with Emona, present-day Ljubljana.

The Logatec War Museum displays military-historical objects from all periods of Slovenian military and war history. Logatec Castle shapes the town’s historic character.

Dolenji Logatec lies along a former freight route that connected central Slovenia with Primorska, in the central part of the Logatec Basin in the Inner Carniola Valley. Napoleon Avenue is designated as a historically designed area; 290 linden trees line a 1,900-metre-long road.

Leisure and Enjoyment

At AERODIUM Logatec, visitors can fly in a wind tunnel. No prior experience is required; an instructor accompanies participants throughout the flight.

At Pekarna kot nekoč, bread and other baked goods are made using a traditional method with natural sourdough culture. The bakery uses locally produced flour milled on a traditional millstone.
