Part of the Mežakla karst plateau lies within Triglav National Park. The plateau offers numerous natural and cultural attractions in all seasons.

Nature
Belska planina, also called Svečica, offers views of the Julian Alps. In summer, colorful meadows filled with blooming alpine flowers characterize the landscape. Another special feature of Mežakla is the natural bridge: it is estimated to be 15 meters long, and its three-meter-wide arch rises up to eight meters above the bottom of the gorge.
The Snežna jama cave is also located on Mežakla, at an altitude of 1,109 meters. The cave is 70 meters long and 20 meters deep. In Javorniški Rovt above Jesenice lies Zois Park, with special plant and tree species as well as three small lakes. The Javorniški waterfalls consist of two waterfalls on the Javornik stream next to the present-day road to Javorniški Rovt. In May, blooming alpine daffodil meadows are among the seasonal natural attractions.
Winter
For winter activities, the area offers the Savske jame natural toboggan run in Planina pod Golico. When there is enough snow, it is 700 meters long and is particularly suitable for family sledding. At Podmežakla Sports Hall, public ice skating is available on Saturdays, Sundays, public holidays, and during school holidays, according to the applicable hall schedule.
Culture
A central cultural and historical site is the Stara Sava settlement, formerly called Fužinarsko naselje Sava. Because of its outstanding urban-planning, technical, architectural, and historical significance, it has been designated a cultural monument of national importance. Today, the Stara Sava area serves museum, cultural, and tourism activities. It preserves a fully intact central complex of buildings with most of the characteristics of an ironworks settlement from the late 17th century.
Visitors can experience Stara Sava on guided tours led by historical figures who once lived and worked in the settlement. These include the ironworks owner Viktor Ruard, his wife, and Angela Boškin, the first Slovenian nurse. The complex also includes Kasarna, a late Baroque building from the late 18th century. It is one of the oldest surviving examples of communal workers’ housing in Slovenia.
The Kosova Graščina City Museum presents the history of the city of Jesenice and hosts changing exhibitions of fine art as well as museum exhibitions. The permanent exhibition on the city’s history is titled „The Youth of the City of Red Dust“. Kosova Graščina was built in 1521 by Baron Sigmund Dietrichstein.
The local natural science collection includes the Jože Bedič Geological and Paleontological Collection. It is considered the largest and most important collection of Paleozoic fossils in Slovenia and one of the most outstanding in Southeast Europe. The Jesenice meteorite is considered the eleventh meteorite in the world whose orbit astronomers were able to calculate precisely, as well as an outstanding object of Slovenia’s geological heritage.
The traditional Čufarjevi dnevi takes place every year in November. Local and other Slovenian cultural practitioners present their work there.
Hiking
The themed trail „Memories of Old Jesenice“ leads from Murova, the oldest district of Jesenice, via Čufar Square and the Stara Sava museum complex to Podmežakla Sports Park. In Jesenice, guided tours with a local tourist guide can also be reserved.
Several long-distance trails also pass through the Jesenice area. Stages 2 and 3 of the Juliana Trail run through the region and include a stop in Jesenice. Stages 3 and 4 of the purple route of the Via Alpina also pass through the area: Stage 3 runs from Dovje to Koča na Golici mountain hut, while Stage 4 continues to Prešernova koča hut on Stol.
The Slovenian Mountain Hiking Trail runs through the Jesenice area along the ridge of the Karawanks from Stol to the checkpoint at Koča na Golici mountain hut. It then descends into the valley to the Slovenian Alpine Museum in Mojstrana.
Cycling
The D2 long-distance cycling route runs through the Municipality of Jesenice. In Jesenice, it has two access points with parking: at Stara Sava and at Podmežakla Sports Hall. The „Around Jesenice“ cycling trip is an easy 23.1-kilometer route with 270 meters of elevation gain.
A 19.6-kilometer, moderately difficult access stage of the Juliana Bike trail also runs through the Municipality of Jesenice.
The Jesenice Tourist Information Center is located in the center of Jesenice, opposite Jesenice railway station.
Regional navigation also leads to Kranjska Gora, Rateče, Mojstrana, Gozd Martuljek, Jesenice and Žirovnica.
