Vrbovce – Accommodation, Hiking Trails and Culture

Around Vrbovce lie the unique meadows of the White Carpathians, with a wealth of terrestrial orchids that is significant for Central Europe. Meadows rich in flowers remain characteristic vegetation in the area around Vrbovce to this day. A considerable part of the cadastral area lies within the Biele Karpaty Protected Landscape Area. A natural monument is located within the Biele Karpaty Protected Landscape Area in the cadastral territory of Vrbovce and forms part of the Žalostiná Natura 2000 site.

Nature

The landscape around Vrbovce therefore brings together several clearly defined natural features: the protected areas of the Biele Karpaty, the species-rich meadows of the White Carpathians, and the natural monument within the Žalostiná Natura 2000 site. The meadows are characterized not only by their abundance of orchids; their diversity of flowers is also still part of the vegetation around the village today.

Things to Do

The educational trail can be reached from Vrbovce via a blue-marked hiking trail. It is 6.4 km long and has five stations. In addition, a hiking trail begins in Vrbovce at the border crossing. Another hiking trail leads around the Vrbovce Reservoir and ends in Vrbovce. Yet another hiking trail follows a paved road to Vrbovce and ends there.

A short cycling connection is also documented: the easy, 3 km recreational cycling route 5321 leads to Ostrý vrch. This lookout point offers a panoramic view of the Kopaničiaren landscape and the entire surrounding area.

Culture

Traditional folk architecture in Vrbovce includes shared courtyards and several residential houses arranged one behind another. Vrbovce has also preserved the original architecture of Kopaničiaren settlements. These two forms describe both the courtyard structure and the settlement character of the village.

The Vrbovčianska izba was established in Vrbovce in 2001 as a folklore memorial room. It displays traditional domestic culture, crafts, work and festive costumes, as well as other historical objects. In addition, Vrbovce’s Evangelical Tolerance Church dates from 1784. The Church of Saint Elizabeth in Vrbovce is a national cultural monument. In the Šance district, the railway station building has a memorial plaque dedicated to Maruška Kudeříková.
