Rudník – Crafts, Nature Trail and Landscape

Rudník extends across many hamlets and kopanitsas on the slopes and in the valleys of the Myjava Hills in the White Carpathians. Basketry has a long tradition in the village; to this day, there is a company there that manufactures and processes willow products.

Culture

At Nevšedné podoby prútia, visitors can learn about new weaving techniques and tools, find out how willow rods are harvested and prepared, and exchange experiences. The first written mention of Rudník dates back to 1661.

Historical occupations in Rudník included blacksmithing, milling, the production of vegetable oil (záboje), weaving, embroidery, lace-making and the manufacture of wooden products. Nevšedné podoby prútia is one of the most important cultural events in Rudník. Most of the cultural and social events mentioned there take place more or less regularly every year.

The 2026 edition of Nevšedné podoby prútia was announced to include basketry workshops, demonstrations of weaving techniques, a basketry market, films about basketry, an exhibition of basketry items and an accompanying cultural programme.

There is a living willow tunnel in the park by the cultural centre in Rudník. Children especially use it for playing and as protection from the hot sun during the summer months.

Nature

The NCH Poriadie–Rudník nature trail is 2.284 km long and has three information stations about the nature, fauna and flora of the Myjava Hills. It begins in the centre of Rudník, leads north through the Skalky forest and ends at Poriadie railway station, where the nature trail towards Stará Myjava begins.
