Winter Trails and Routes
The green-marked hiking trail no. 5117 leads from the central landmark in Myjava over Ostrý vrch to the square in Vrbovce and is 11 km long. The blue-marked hiking trail no. 2413a runs from Myjava through Turá Lúka to Branč Castle in Podzámok and is 10 km long. The Myjavská päťdesiatka hiking march has been part of Myjava’s tourist event program since 1971. In addition, the Chodníčky za poznaním slovensko-moravského pohraničia project created seven educational trails in the vicinity of Myjava in 2013.
For cycling, there is the 42.9 km-long, blue-marked 4Cykloregio sports cycling route through Turá Lúka, Vrbovce and Chvojnica in the Myjava area. From Chvojnica, the 4Cykloregio continues to Skalica and the Baťa Canal, where it connects to the long-distance cycling route along the Morava River.
The Starý hrad–Branč educational trail begins nearby at Branč Castle. It can be reached via the Podbranč, Podzámok bus stop, takes about 40 minutes and has six information panels.
Landscape and Nature
Bučkova jama in Myjava District is a 38.46-hectare landslide area near Vrbovce with a varied landscape of flower meadows, woodland and wetlands. Orchids and the Turk’s cap lily grow there; rare butterflies are also found there, including Colias myrmidone and the two Maculinea species Maculinea nausithous and Maculinea teleius.
The protected area of Chvojnica in Myjava District preserves a mountain stream with riparian vegetation; tuff deposits have created calcareous fens there. The protected area of Kožíkov vrch near Vrbovce features flower meadows with nine orchid species and the rare purple hawkweed. The Lipa U Belanských in Turá Lúka is a protected small-leaved lime more than 620 years old and the oldest recorded protected tree in Myjava District. The Žalostiná observation platform stands above Chvojnica in the White Carpathians and in the CHKO Biele Karpaty Protected Landscape Area.
The Kamenec observation platform was opened to the public in August 2023. The project includes information panels about birds at various locations in the region, as well as a charging station for electric bicycles in the gazebo at the children’s playground.
Culture and History
The Myjavský viadukt, a railway bridge in Myjava, was declared a national cultural monument in 2021. The Vrbovčianska izba in Vrbovce presents an exhibition about peasant homes, crafts, workwear and festive clothing, as well as other objects; visits can be arranged by telephone. The Monument to the Battle of the Kurucs on Ostrý vrch in Vrbovce commemorates the battle of December 1704 between imperial troops and the estates’ army.
Nearby, Branč Castle was built in the second half of the 13th century to secure routes across the Carpathians to Moravia.
The Gazdovský dvor in the Turá Lúka district is a living exhibition in a typical Kopaničiarska farmhouse from the late 19th century. Visitors can see traditional clothing, tools and work equipment and try traditional activities, including tying Myjava scarves and trying on a traditional Myjava costume. Visitors can also taste what the farmer’s wife cooked on the day of their visit.
Traditions and Events
The MYJAVA 2026 International Folklore Festival was the 66th edition of the festival and included folk traditions, music, dance, singing, crafts, tastings, markets and exhibitions. The Dožinky harvest festival in Turá Lúka offers tastings of regional specialties, demonstrations of traditional crafts and participation in harvest activities. In 2026, Dožinky was held again after a one-year break.
