Brestovec – Accommodation and Nature of the Kopanice Landscape
Brestovec is characterized by a landscape in which traditional settlement forms, forests, paths and historical evidence are closely interconnected. The Kopanice landscape around the village consists of scattered settlements, meadows and forests and has preserved its traditional character. White Carpathian forests extend across the northern part of Brestovec’s cadastral area.
Nature
The White Carpathian forests in Brestovec provide a habitat for numerous animal and plant species and are used for tourism and recreation. The reservoir on the Myjava lies southeast of Brestovec. Extensive forest stands have been preserved there; the reservoir is also part of the Rieka Myjava natural monument. Thus, different natural areas stand side by side within the documented landscape area, from the forest zone in the cadastral area to the body of water in the southeastern surroundings.
Paths and routes
The Brestovec–Stará Myjava–Topolecká educational trail is 18.298 kilometres long and has nine information stations. They focus on the natural wealth as well as the animal and plant life of the Myjava Hills and the CHKO Biele Karpaty Protected Landscape Area. In addition, the blue cycling route Brestovec–Stará Myjava runs for approximately 15 kilometres through the Kopanice and offers views of the surrounding nature. The route continues on the Czech side into the Filipovské Valley.
History and culture
Several original folk residential and farm buildings from the 19th century have been preserved in Brestovec. Another testimony to the past is the Tunel generála Štefánika, a technical monument dating from the period of the First Czechoslovak Republic. The M. R. Štefánik Tunnel in the cadastral area of Brestovec is 2,987 metres long. At its entrance there is a memorial plaque commemorating the people who died during the construction of the tunnel.
Events and sport
The tradition of Stavanie mája takes place in Brestovec in spring; an edition was announced for 30 April 2026. The “Futbalové podujatie na Brestovci” was scheduled for July 2023, 2024 and 2025. The multifunctional sports field in Brestovec can be reserved in advance for individual and team sports.
