Trstená: St. Martin’s Church, cycling route and Orava ceramics

St. Martin’s Church stands on the Gothic foundations of Trstená’s first stone church, dating from the 14th and 15th centuries. Its tower contains two exhibition levels; the balcony is 26.5 m high. The crypt restored in 2017 lies beneath St. Martin’s Church.

Cycling

A 3.507 km section of the Cesta okolo Tatier runs through Trstená along a path beside the Oravica River towards Liesek. The route then continues along a railway embankment to the municipality of Liesek. Along the cycling route there are benches, waste bins, bicycle racks, information boards and vertical traffic signs for pedestrians and cyclists. The Trstená–Nowy Targ cycling route also begins in the town of Trstená. Trstená can be reached by bicycle, car or trains that allow bicycles to be carried.

Culture

The local culture includes the Orava clay nativity scene, a permanent exhibition of the Trstená Town Museum. Traditional Trstená ceramics are still made in Trstená today by a master potter. You can also try traditional pottery yourself under the guidance of an experienced master potter.

Nature

The Bubeník educational trail uses bilingual interactive panels about the local cultural and natural heritage. At the end of the educational trail, on the summit of Bubeník Hill, there is a rest area with benches, a fire pit and a telescope. From there, you can enjoy views of the Western Tatras with the Roháče, the Orava Reservoir and Babia Góra.

Events

The Trstenská organ autumn concert series takes place on 21 September, 28 September and 5 October 2025, each time at 4:00 p.m. in St. Martin’s Church in Trstená. The town of Trstená invited visitors to the 30th edition of the Trstenská krídlovka brass music festival.
