Ústie Nad Priehradou at the Orava Dam

The history of Ústie nad Priehradou is closely linked to the Orava Dam. When the dam was completed in 1953, five villages, including Ústie, were relocated and flooded. New Ústie was built on the shore of the Orava Dam. Ústie nad Priehradou is located in the immediate vicinity of the reservoir; its shore is also part of the Lány area in Ústie.

History and Chapels

The Chapel of Saint Elizabeth of Hungary was consecrated on November 26, 1993. The original church in Ústie was also dedicated to Saint Elizabeth; it was demolished. The column of Saint John of Nepomuk stands on the road to the cemetery of Ústie nad Priehradou and is a historical-artistic monument.

The Chapel of Saint Anthony of Padua in the cemetery of Ústie nad Priehradou was built by the Kohútovci family between 1898 and 1904. After the Orava Dam became operational in 1953, it served the residents of Ústie as a place for worship and liturgies until 1995. In 1993, the conversion of the former school, built in 1954, into rooms for worship began.
