Vricko – Little Fatra, Waterfall and Local History

Vrícko is located in the Lúčanská part of the Little Fatra. The Vríca watercourse flows through the village. For visitors, a mountain landscape setting and a named watercourse come together here as two clearly identifiable points of orientation.

Landscape and Nature

Kľacký Waterfall is protected in Vrícko as a national nature monument and is 30 metres high. The marked route from Vrícko follows the green hiking trail and takes approximately two hours. The combination of trail marking, colour coding and an approximate time indication makes the route easy to classify as an activity in its own right, without requiring any additional route data.

The Kľak protected area includes the cadastral territories of Vrícko and Fačkov. It preserves valuable rock and forest plant communities. In addition to the individual natural monument Kľacký Waterfall in Vrícko, the Kľak protected area also includes Fačkov within its cadastral territories.

Arrival and Routes

By car, Vrícko can be reached from Kláštor pod Znievom, Prievidza or Rajec via Kľačno and Vrícke sedlo. Bus connections to Vrícko operate on the Martin–Kláštor pod Znievom–Vrícko and Turčianske Teplice–Kláštor pod Znievom–Vrícko routes.

The named starting points, the mountain pass and the two bus lines provide different reference points for personal travel planning. In addition, MTB route 8416 runs from Predvríčko via Vrícko to Vrícke sedlo. The route and the journey therefore describe different ways of considering the village and its nearby network of paths.

The route details offer different bases for comparison: when hiking, the focus is on an approximate duration, while when cycling, it is on the sequence of connected places. This makes it possible to consider both activities separately in planning, without combining them into a single route.

Culture and Remembrance

In the centre of the village stands the church „Kostol sv. Bartolomeja“, which was enlarged in 1787–1788 from an earlier Renaissance church. It contains a side altar dedicated to the Virgin Mary dating from 1715. The bell tower on the church grounds dates from the 19th century and has three bells.

The architectural character of the village also includes three-room log houses from the 19th century. The park commemorating the 20th anniversary of the liberation was established in 1965 on the site of the ruins of four houses from the Second World War period. Thus, 19th-century architectural forms stand alongside a later-established memorial site in the village.

In the nearby Nitra Valley, a monument was erected in 1962 for three victims who were executed in 1944. Below Reváň, another monument commemorates 17 unknown heroes who fell in December 1944. The cemetery monument for these 17 unknown heroes, who were buried in the local cemetery, is registered as a monument object in the category „mass grave“.
