Vesio: Hiking, Culture and Nature Around the Village

Church, Festivals and Military History

The Church of San Bartolomeo is the parish church of Vesio and dates from the second half of the 18th century. The high altar features a painting depicting Saint Bartholomew and Saint Roch. This provides culture-loving visitors with a specific point of interest right in Vesio, without reducing the village to a single theme.

The church also has a special musical connection: it was completed in 1768 with the construction of an organ by the Venetian organ builder Gaetano Callido. In the week after Easter, Vesio also celebrates the tradition of the Sante Quarantore. A painted wooden scene with burning candles is set up on the high altar of San Bartolomeo. Vesio's patron saint festival takes place on August 24.

The history of the First World War is also linked to Vesio. During the war, the village was a military base and the headquarters of one of the construction commands of the Military Engineer Corps of Zone XV. In the area around Passo Nota, near the Rifugio Alpini di Vesio, you can visit a preserved command post of a sub-sector command, the well-known concrete trench, as well as trenches, medical stations and military barracks. The visible structures are still in good condition today.

Hiking Around Vesio and Passo Nota

The Muravalle Trail, Route 167, branches off from the paved road connecting Vesio di Tremosine with Passo Nota. After approximately two hours of walking and 500 metres of elevation gain, the trail reaches the Alpini di Vesio hut, located near Passo Nota at 1,208 metres above sea level. The approximate walking time and elevation gain provide a clear basis for comparing this tour with other trails in the area.

The circular hike to Malga Lorina begins about 1 kilometre beyond the village of Vesio, at the turn-off for San Michele. It takes eight hours and passes through the forest managed by the Western Gardesana Regional Forestry Authority in Parco Alto Garda Bresciano. The trail runs mostly through a forest of beech, hornbeam, ash and maple trees, follows and crosses a stream several times, and passes small waterfalls and several pools.

The Bondo Valley is also located nearby and was designated a nature reserve in 1980. Access to the Corna-Vecchia Trail is above Vesio, near the road to Passo Nota. After about an hour, this trail joins Route 106. The tours described therefore differ both in their starting points and in their duration and course.

Cycling Tour, Stops and Accommodation

For cyclists, the “Bike Tour - Passo Nota dagli Alpini” is a loop route: it starts and ends in Vesio, in the Pertica hamlet.

The municipal on-demand service HelloBus connects the villages of Tremosine with Limone. In Vesio, the service operates the stops Piazza Vittorio Veneto, Via Orsino, Bivio per Limone and Villa di Vesio. This means that, when planning your day, you have specific stops in the village available in addition to the trails and cycling routes.
