Lake Carezza and the Rosengarten
Lake Carezza can be up to 300 metres long, 140 metres wide and around 22 metres deep. Underground springs from the Latemar feed Lake Carezza; its size and depth therefore depend greatly on the season and weather conditions. Lake Carezza is a protected natural monument in its entirety. The Rosengarten near Welschnofen is part of the UNESCO World Heritage Dolomites.

Hiking Trails, Mountain Tours and Getting There
A hike from Welschnofen to Lake Carezza leads via the Stadl Alm and offers views of the Rosengarten and Latemar. Circular and lakeside hiking trails at Lake Carezza offer views of Latemar and the Rosengarten.
You can reach the König Laurin Tour by taking bus lines 180, 184, 186 or 187 to the Welschnofen Zentrum stop; from there, continue uphill by cable car. The König Laurin Tour starts at the Welschnofen cable car and leads via the Hirzelsteig and lift-assisted mountain trails to Lake Carezza. For planning purposes, take the uphill journey after the bus section before continuing along the mountain trail to the lake.
From Welschnofen, you can begin your journey to Lake Carezza by cable car. The onward route continues via the Tschein chairlift and hiking trails no. 16 and 6, crossing a suspension bridge. A multi-day route leads from Welschnofen/Nova Levante through the Niger Pass and the surrounding mountain pastures, as well as through the massifs of the Schlern and Rosengarten; it returns to Welschnofen/Nova Levante. As a multi-day itinerary, this route comprises several stages and ends again at the starting point.
The Rosengarten offers hiking trails such as the Hirzelsteig to the Christomannos Monument and the Rosengarten circuit. Alpine climbing and via ferratas are also possible at the Rosengarten.
History and the Life of Mountain Farmers
The road through the Eggental Valley, built in 1860, created a connection to Bolzano and opened up new opportunities for economic development in Welschnofen in the timber industry, mountaineering and tourism.
The Frommerhof preserves a private collection about the life of mountain farmers in the 19th and 20th centuries. The collection therefore covers two centuries of mountain-farming life.
Market and Alpine Pasture Festival
From May to October, a farmers’ market takes place every Wednesday morning in Welschnofen, offering fresh vegetables, homemade jams and other regional products. The “König Laurin” Alpine Pasture Festival takes place every year as a sociable hiking day in the mountains. Welschnofen’s associations organise the festival on the mountain meadows at the foot of the Rosengarten. Regional food and drinks, as well as music, games and entertainment, are offered at the alpine huts. The two events therefore differ in both frequency and location: the market takes place in Welschnofen, while the Alpine Pasture Festival is held on the mountain meadows at the foot of the Rosengarten.
