Winter Activities and Sellaronda
In winter, skiing, snowboarding, tobogganing and snowshoeing are among the activities in Selva di Val Gardena.
Selva di Val Gardena is considered a popular starting point for the Sellaronda. Access to the Sellaronda is possible with the Dolomiti Superski ski pass. On the Sellaronda, skiers cover a total of 44 kilometres; approximately 21 kilometres of this distance are travelled using uphill transport facilities. Uphill transport facilities are transportation systems that enable skiers to overcome differences in elevation while they are not skiing downhill.

Dolomites and Vallunga
Selva lies directly below the Sella Massif. The Dolomites around Selva are a UNESCO World Heritage Site, an international distinction for particularly significant cultural or natural sites. Parts of the Puez Group, the Cir peaks, the Sella Group and the Sassolungo Group shape the landscape around Selva.
Vallunga lies in the heart of the Puez-Odle Nature Park and is part of the European ecological network Natura 2000. Natura 2000 refers to a European network. The ruins of Wolkenstein Castle can be reached from Vallunga in Selva via a short, very steep path.
Ski Tours, Walks and Bike Routes
A ski tour is a tour on skis. The Vallunga ski tour follows route no. 14 from the entrance to Vallunga to the San Silvestro Chapel and then continues to the Pra da Ri plateau. Quieter walks around Selva offer peace and an authentic feeling of rural life.
There is a dense network of hiking trails around Selva and in Val Gardena. Selva has various mountain biking routes with sporty descents and challenging climbs. The 303a Trail Arena Tour forms a circuit around Selva Gardena with bends, jumps and high speeds. A circuit is a route structure that returns to the starting point. The various route types therefore range from quiet walks and hiking trails to mountain biking routes and a fast trail circuit.
The Trail Arena Val Gardena comprises five intermediate flow trails in the Dantercepies and Plan de Gralba/Piz Seteur areas. The Ciampinoi freeride route begins below the mountain station of the Ciampinoi cable car, which starts in the centre of Selva di Val Gardena.
History and Language
Wolkenstein Castle was partially destroyed around 1525 by falling boulders and was not rebuilt afterwards. Oswald von Wolkenstein was born between 1376 and 1378 as a member of a Tyrolean noble family that had acquired Wolkenstein Castle and adopted its name.
The parish church of “S. Maria ad Nives” is located in Selva. Ladin is taught at schools in Val Gardena and is the third official language there, alongside German and Italian. The cultural topics therefore include the parish church in Selva and the Ladin language in Val Gardena.
