Getting around between Bolzano and the villages of Renon
The Ritten narrow-gauge railway operates all year round and connects Collalbo, Soprabolzano and Maria Assunta. The Ritten narrow-gauge railway was opened in 1907 and is the last of its kind in South Tyrol. A journey on the Ritten railway takes 18 minutes. The Ritten cable car connects Bolzano with Soprabolzano in 12 minutes.
Landscape around Corno del Renon
The earth pyramids of Renon can be visited at three locations in Longomoso, Soprabolzano and Unterinn. From Corno del Renon, there are expansive views of the Dolomites UNESCO World Natural Heritage Site, the Sarntal Alps and the Stubai Alps. The extensive hiking areas between the sunny vineyards and 2,260 m-high Corno del Renon are accessible via hiking trails, e-bike routes and mountain promenades.
Easy trails and Lake Wolfsgruben
The Panoramic Trail on Corno del Renon is an easy route measuring 2,863 m, with 99 m of elevation gain and a walking time of 45 minutes; the trail is also suitable for pushchairs. The Sentiero selvaggio delle meraviglie above Soprabolzano is an easy family trail of approximately 3.6 km, with stations and games about the wildlife of Renon. From the centre of Soprabolzano, Trail No. 15 leads to Lake Wolfsgruben in approximately 30 to 35 minutes. Swimming in Lake Wolfsgruben is possible in summer. Visitors can enjoy a leisurely walk around Lake Wolfsgruben. In winter, it is possible to ice skate on Lake Wolfsgruben.

The “Il mondo favoloso di Toni” trail on Corno del Renon is an easy circular route of approximately 2 km starting from the mountain station at Cima Lago Nero. The “Rebe” Trail is an artistically designed, wine-education hiking trail from Signato on Renon to Rencio in Bolzano. Next to Plattner Farm, there is a nature trail where visitors can experience the world from a bee’s perspective. The Renon speed-skating rink is an outdoor track where visitors can ice skate with views of the Dolomites.
History and culture on Renon
Plattner Farm is 600 years old and is one of the oldest farmsteads on Renon. The history of the Lengmoos Commandery dates back to the 12th century. The Lengmoos Commandery was built in the 12th century as a hospice for pilgrims travelling along the Imperial Road and soon became a rural branch of the Teutonic Order. From May to October, concerts, exhibitions, symposia and lectures are held in the historic rooms of the Lengmoos Commandery. The Renon Traditional Costume Collection offers an insight into more than 130 years of traditional costume history on Renon.
