Waterfall and Texel Cable Car in Partschins
On its approximately 8-kilometre course through the steep and unspoilt Ziel Valley, the Partschins Waterfall is fed by numerous tributaries and rivulets. Visitors can reach the waterfall by bus route 265, on foot from Partschins in about an hour, or by car to the Birkenwald car park. For planning purposes, these options differ in terms of bus journey, walking time and access to the car park.
The Texel Cable Car takes visitors directly to the Merano High Mountain Trail in the heart of Texel Group Nature Park. This also provides access from Partschins to a high-altitude hiking trail in the nature park. Those who include this trail combine the ride on the Texel Cable Car directly with a hike in the nature park.
Family Walks with the Legends Trail and Apple Walk
The Partschins Legends Trail is a family walk from Partschins to prehistoric sacred sites. The route follows the Legends Trail to Saltenstein and returns via the Zielbach stream, a suspension bridge and the Sonnenberg Trail.
The Apple Walk is an apple-themed experience trail for the whole family, with twelve stations, a quiz and a prize draw.
Church, Cemetery and Typewriter History
The parish church of St Peter and Paul in Partschins was first mentioned in historical records in 1264 and remodelled around 1502 in the late Gothic style. The church contains the group of figures depicting the Death of the Virgin by Jörg Lederer (†1550). It is the only surviving element of the original late Gothic high altar.
The old cemetery on the east wall of the parish church in Partschins contains the grave and memorial plaque of inventor Peter Mitterhofer. Peter Mitterhofer lived in his house in Partschins for 31 years and developed six typewriter models there in his workshop. The first model was created in 1864. The earliest written records of Peter Mitterhofer’s house in Partschins date from 1431.
The Peter Mitterhofer Typewriter Museum houses around 2,000 typewriters and presents more than 150 years of social and technological history, including the history of the Enigma cipher machine.
Wine, Fruit and Distillates from Partschins
At Ansitz Mairhof, Riesling, Pinot Blanc, Grüner Veltliner, Lagrein Rosé, Schiava, Pinot Noir and Zweigelt are produced from local grape varieties. The wines can be sampled in the historic cellar on request.
At Ansitz Mairhof in Partschins, sun-ripened fruit from the estate’s own cultivation is used to make apple juice, various jams, fruit and leaf syrups, as well as homemade chutneys. These products are made, sold and offered for tasting.
At Ansitz Gaudententurm, Christine Schönweger demonstrates her distilling skills every week during the season at the on-site Gaudenz farm distillery. Afterwards, she invites visitors to sample her fine distillates in the historic cellar. The courtyard can also be visited.
