Culture and nature in Moos in Passeier

The Museo Alta Passiria – Bunker Mooseum is housed in a former bunker dating from the 1940s. The Museo Alta Passiria also serves as an information centre for the Texel Group Nature Park and the former Schneeberg mine. Outside the Museo Alta Passiria, there is an enclosure for Alpine ibex, where visitors can observe the animals at close range.

Parish Church of the Assumption of the Virgin Mary

The Parish Church of the Assumption of the Virgin Mary was built in 1402/03 in the Gothic style, with a 52 m-high pointed tower. The Stations of the Cross in the Parish Church of the Assumption of the Virgin Mary were created by the Passeier artist Nikolaus Auer of the Passeier School of Painting. The altarpiece in the Parish Church of the Assumption of the Virgin Mary dates from the Baroque period.

Water power and technology at the Stieber Waterfall

The MuseumHinterPasseier – Stiëber Mooseum is housed in an old hydroelectric power station at the foot of the Stieber Waterfall in Moos. It explores water power as well as the history of technology and electricity in Hinterpasseier. Here, the Stieber Waterfall is the specific local reference point for water power and the history of technology and electricity.

Stieber Waterfall and walking trails

From the church in Moso, the footpath leads towards Plan as far as the first bridge. After 150 m, a walking trail branches off to the left towards the wooden footbridges overlooking the Stieber Waterfall. At the Stieber Waterfall, the Pfeldererbach initially plunges 19 m and then a further 18 m into the Passer. The two drops follow one another along the course of the stream, giving the waterfall its two-stage sequence. The 150 m section to the turn-off forms the first clearly defined part of the walk; the wooden footbridges come only afterwards. For day planning, the 150 m section to the turn-off can therefore be considered as the approach before access to the footbridges.

The Ibex Trail begins shortly after the glass tower, the entrance to the museum, and is freely accessible. The Ibex Trail includes a dry-stone wall that serves as a habitat for lizards, spiders, beetles, wild bees, mosses and tiny flowers.

Timmelsjoch Road and Timmel_Transit

Timmel_Transit covers the history of road construction on the South Tyrolean side of Timmelsjoch Road. Timmel_Transit is housed in a former barracks dating from 1930. Timmel_Transit is open daily from 7:00 to 20:00 from the end of May to the end of October, provided that Timmelsjoch Road is open to traffic. For day planning, the period and the road opening must therefore be considered together. Timmel_Transit is consequently a seasonal attraction; the opening of Timmelsjoch Road remains a prerequisite.

Practical information about the trails

The Passer Gorge Trail is not suitable for pushchairs and may not be used by bicycles. Anyone travelling with a pushchair or bicycle should not include the Passer Gorge Trail in their route.
