Hiking Routes with Different Profiles

The “I maggenghi di Caspoggio” hike provides useful guidance for planning your day. The climb to Sant’Antonio involves 200 metres of elevation gain, while the route to Motta involves 350 metres. The walking time is approximately 1.5 or 2.5 hours, respectively. The route leads from Sant’Antonio via the “Sentiero del Latte” to Motta di Caspoggio. The return journey can be made as a circular route via Prabello and Santa Elisabetta.

“I sentieri del latte a Caspoggio” also combines clear key details with different options. The route is approximately 3 kilometres long, involves around 430 metres of elevation gain and takes about 1.5 hours to walk. It is intended for hiking and, with minor variations, can also be cycled. For a longer day, the “Lo sci a Caspoggio” route is available, covering approximately 9 kilometres, around 750 metres of elevation gain and about 4 hours of walking time. This route is also intended for hiking; with minor variations, it can be cycled.

The name “Lo sci a Caspoggio” should not automatically be taken to mean a current skiing offer. The focus of this route is the hike described and its possible cycling variations. The different distances, elevation gains and walking times help you choose a suitable tour for the time available on a particular day.

Alpe Prabello and Ferrata Vigneron

Alpe Prabello is a well-known destination for hiking and cycling tours. There is also an equipped picnic area next to the chapel. This makes the site a practical place to take a break during the day, complementing the longer routes.

For visitors seeking sporting activities, Caspoggio offers the Ferrata Vigneron, a vertical and exposed via ferrata. It presents no particular technical difficulties. Long vertical slabs are extensively secured with rungs and a tightly stretched cable. The starting point is near the Castello district in the municipality of Caspoggio. Parking is available near the roundabout on the provincial road through Valmalenco, at the turn-off for Caspoggio.

Those planning a stage of the Alta Via della Valmalenco can descend to Caspoggio via the former ski slopes and then take public transport back to Torre di Santa Maria. The reference to the former ski slopes describes a historical condition, not a current piste or lift function.

Local History Along the Trails

The ruins of the ancient Castello di Caspoggio can still be seen in the forests of Castello. The “Una storia in cammino” route includes a path to Castello di Caspoggio and combines the hike with this historic destination. The “Erminio Dioli pittore” walking tour also passes through Caspoggio along urban streets.

The medieval “Truna” is located in the historic centre. It consists of adjoining houses and has only two openings for entry and exit. The “Cavalera” is a developed religious route. It leads from the wayside chapel in Contrada Negrini via the chapel of Bricalli to Curada Bassa. It includes two niches and a wooden crucifix attached to a building.

Another historic landmark is Cà dei Muscun, one of the oldest houses in Valmalenco. The year 1504 is inscribed on its façade. Churches add to this tour through the area’s history: The present parish church, Chiesa dei SS. Rocco, Fabiano e Sebastiano, was built in 1661 and consecrated in 1666. It was extended in the 1960s and its façade was redesigned. Chiesa di Santa Elisabetta was built in the Pantanaccio district between 1719 and 1721.

Sporting Variety for Different Interests

If you are looking for another sporting activity in addition to hiking, the Centro della Montagna – Zenith in Caspoggio includes, among other facilities, a pump track. This allows longer mountain tours, historic walks and a shorter sporting activity to be combined in different ways, without equating the offers in terms of their content.

You can view other destinations for comparison here: Stazzona, Sernio, Aprica, San Carlo, Bianzone, Torre Di Santa Maria, Teglio and Oga.
