Scanzorosciate among vineyards, trails and cultural heritage

Scanzorosciate combines hilly terrain, wine, historical landmarks and trails through a varied landscape. The town stretches from the hills near Gavarno Vescovado to the plain along the banks of the Serio east of Bergamo. Trails through the hilly landscape

The Cammino del Vescovado is a 32 km itinerary that runs from Scanzorosciate to Chiuduno, or in the opposite direction. On the section near Scanzorosciate, vineyards alternate with olive groves. The trail therefore represents not only physical activity but also a direct view of the landscape in which the area’s connection with wine becomes visible.

The Chiesetta degli Alpini on Monte Bastia is a viewpoint with picnic facilities and drinking water. This provides specific stopping points for a break along the way, without implying a particular route or schedule. Cyclists also have a documented option: the Quadrifoglio cycling route runs between Torre de Roveri and Scanzorosciate along minor roads and unpaved paths serving the woods and vineyards.

Moscato di Scanzo and local tastings

Moscato di Scanzo is a red passito wine made from the indigenous grape variety of the same name. To produce it, the carefully selected grapes are dried for at least 21 days after harvest. This distinctive feature makes the wine a subject in its own right in the area and explains why tastings and insights into agriculture can complement a stay in Scanzorosciate.

The headquarters of the Consorzio Moscato di Scanzo DOCG is located at Via F. Martinengo Colleoni 38, 24020 Scanzorosciate; tastings of the fine passito wine are possible there. A tour in Scanzorosciate also includes a visit to a local farm, with a cellar tour and tasting of typical products associated with Moscato di Scanzo. The traditional Festa del Moscato di Scanzo takes place in September and includes tastings, excursions and events.

Roman origins and historic gardens

For a historical perspective, there is Scanzo: the town has Roman origins. Villa Pagnoncelli Folcieri is a particularly multi-layered architectural landmark. It has a 17th-century main structure, a medieval corner tower and 18th-century frescoes. Several periods can therefore be read in a single building.

The villa includes an English garden and a green area at the rear. This preserves the Italian garden design with boxwood hedges. The grounds thus complement the historic architectural features with a distinct garden aspect that differs from the vineyards, olive groves and wooded sections along the trails.

Scanzorosciate can be reached via the A4 Milano–Venezia motorway; the Bergamo or Seriate exits can be used.
