CAI Trail 516: It was extended in 2021 from Forca d'Aviatico to Monte Poieto. CAI Trail 521: It reaches the church square in Ganda. CAI Trail 521A: The route is approximately 1.6 kilometres long, climbs 250 metres in elevation and takes about 45 minutes. Observatory: The Osservatorio Astronomico delle Prealpi Orobiche is located on the southern slopes of Monte Poieto at an altitude of approximately 1,200 metres in Ganda, a hamlet of Aviatico. San Rocco: The church dates back to 1632 and was built as a vow by survivors of the plague following the plague of 1630. Summit chapel: A chapel dedicated to Madonna della Neve stands on Monte Poieto; it is also referred to as Madonna di Poieto. Trail character: The documented routes connect Aviatico with mountain landscapes, hamlets and prominent cultural sites.
Hiking routes between Aviatico and Monte Poieto
CAI Trail 537 passes through Ama and then continues towards Monte Cornagera and Monte Poieto. A Cornagera–Monte Poieto loop hike begins near Aviatico's car park and also follows Trail 537 towards Monte Cornagera and Monte Poieto.
The Aviatico–Monte Poieto route begins in Aviatico and ends at Monte Poieto. Monte Poieto can be reached from Aviatico via numerous hiking trails as well as by a lift that leads directly to the summit. The roads documented for travelling to the Aviatico–Monte Poieto route are SP35 Bergamo–Nembro, SP36 Cantul and SP31 Aviatico. Aviatico can also be reached by bus from Bergamo via Nembro.
Cornagera: Rocky landscape and trail details
The rock towers of Cornagera offer sport climbing routes ranging from easy grades up to grade 6c. The Cornagera labyrinth is also relevant for hikers: the path through this area connects CAI Trails 537 and 521 and leads to the summit of Cornagera at an elevation of 1,311 metres.
A characteristic section of the route through the Cornagera area is the BĂĽs de la Carolina. This is a narrow passage between high rock walls. Together with the climbing routes and the path through the labyrinth, it forms a clearly structured landscape in which the route, rocky terrain and high point can be distinguished.
Churches, chapels and art in the hamlets
The sacred sites are also part of Aviatico's townscape. The parish church of San Bernardino da Siena in Amora stands on a raised church square known as the Belvedere. The church contains paintings entitled “The Last Supper”, “Madonna del Carmine”, “The Fall of the Manna” and “The Sacrifice of Isaac”.
In Ama, the Church of San Salvatore and the Transfiguration houses a polyptych by Giovanni Giacomo Gavasio. It also contains an 18th-century wooden statue of Madonna delle Convulsioni by an unknown sculptor. In Ganda, a church has a façade with six niches containing painted depictions of Mary and Saints Anthony the Abbot, Joseph, Roch, Peter and Paul.
A sacred site in Aviatico also contains a painting of Saint Francis of Assisi attributed to Giovan Battista Moroni. This makes it possible to include the hamlets of Amora, Ama and Ganda in stay planning, each with their own church and art connections. Monte Poieto does not combine these cultural destinations into a single complex, but complements them as an independent mountain and landscape focus.
