Winter Sports near Prüm
The facilities at Wolfsschlucht include downhill ski runs, a drag lift, tobogganing opportunities, and signposted, groomed cross-country ski trails. These activities differ: the ski runs and drag lift are for downhill skiing, the trails are for cross-country skiing, and tobogganing is another winter activity. Walks and Trails in Prüm
Kurpark Prüm, on the outskirts of town, has walking paths, flower beds, and seating. It offers a place to go for a walk within the town. Another way to explore the surrounding area on foot is the Panorama Hiking Trail 120: this challenging circular hike leads around Prüm and offers views of the town, the Basilica of St. Salvator, and the natural surroundings. Its classification as a challenging route is relevant when planning your hike.
The town rally is a self-guided activity. It starts and ends at the Tourist Information Office at Hahnplatz 1. Having the same starting and finishing point gives your exploration a clear reference point in Prüm. In the Kruft Sculpture Park in Prüm-Niederprüm, a walk takes you through meadows and trees: you can see life-size grey herons, giant metal insects, and numerous ponds. The rally, the park, and the sculpture park offer different ways to spend time away from the winter sports area.
Culture and Seasonal Events
The town’s history is also reflected in its buildings. The building of the Benedictine abbey, founded in 721, was expanded into a Baroque palace in 1748 according to plans by Balthasar Neumann. During the summer holidays, it hosts the art exhibition of the European Association of Visual Artists (EVBK). The interior of the Basilica of St. Salvator includes, among other things, the Baroque high altar, a reliquary shrine, and the tomb of Emperor Lothair, a grandson of Charlemagne. Thus, Prüm offers two distinct cultural insights: the abbey’s Baroque architectural history and the basilica’s sacred furnishings.
Markets and events also shape the calendar year. Organized by the town of Prüm, GLS has attracted more than 20,000 visitors every two years since 1967. The horse market takes place on a Saturday in early April and early October at the exhibition grounds. The farmers’ market is scheduled for the third Sunday in October in and around the Konvikt, House of Culture.
