Culture and Village Character
St. Cornelius Church was destroyed down to its foundations on 13 September 1944. St. Cornelius is characterised by stepped buttresses and pointed-arch windows in the nave and choir. The tower of St. Cornelius was completed in September 1953 and is 29.5 metres high. The church is considered open to everyone. St. Cornelius is also considered the only building in Brandscheid that continues to be regarded as being of heritage conservation interest.
The historic village character includes a wayside cross on Zum Marstall road bearing the year 1773, as well as a wayside cross on the main road that probably dates from the last quarter of the 18th century. Brandscheid preserves a historic village structure with irregularly arranged transverse houses and elongated farmsteads along the main road and Burgstraße.
