Culture and History

St. Peter and Paul Church is a Neo-Gothic, asymmetrical two-nave hall church dating from 1909. Older medieval sections were incorporated into the building; there is also a new sacristy that was probably built in 1687. A choir dating from around 1500 has been preserved, and older building components were reused during the 1909 reconstruction. The church is first mentioned in 893 in the Prüm Urbar.

The religiously oriented collection of small monuments includes 22 wayside crosses, including several pilgrims' crosses. The small shrine is a pilgrims' chapel on a hill above Büdesheim offering views across the Büdesheim Valley. The Blood Cross is listed as a protected cultural monument and documented as a late Gothic niche cross bearing the years 1542 and 1548. A wayside cross on the road to Oos is considered probably the oldest in the former Prüm district and is estimated to date from the 13th or 14th century.

Nature

The Hengscheid area near Büdesheim covers approximately 2.3 hectares. It features orchid beech forest, juniper-rich limestone grassland, and dry cocksfoot meadows. In Büdesheim and the surrounding area, 46 orchid species can be observed.

Cranes as well as white and black storks are frequently spotted in the Büdesheim area. Common and grey herons can regularly be seen around the biological sewage treatment plant. A March snowflake walk in March offers an opportunity to discover March snowflakes in the Büdesheim area.

Location and Transport

The B410 separates the northern and southern parts of the village of Büdesheim. There is a hiking car park on the B410 at the edge of the village in the direction of Hillesheim. The B410 is also credited with providing improved connections to regional centres and relieving traffic within the village.
