Nature

The Krausbuche stands on the border with Rommersheim, in the Rommersheim district. Near its former location, three trees of the same species have developed. In the area around Fleringen, the Krausbuche was once a destination for Sunday excursions and a place to linger at mossy resting spots.

Culture and History

The Quereinhaus is considered the most recently dated residential building of the Renaissance type in the area of the Prüm collective municipality. In Fleringen, it is also classified as a cultural monument of the Trier region.

The church dates back a long way: the choir and tower were built around the turn of the 14th and 15th centuries, while the nave was added in 1683. The ceiling paintings in the old choir were restored in 1973/74. They depict Christ as the Judge of the World, surrounded by the four Evangelists. The high altar was carved by Johann Molitor in 1663; the side altar contains a Rhenish Madonna and Child from the 14th century.

A Crucifixion relief from the early 17th century is set into the church’s southeastern exterior wall. During a visitation in 1570, the Evangelist Luke was already recorded as the church’s patron. The sacristy probably dates from the 17th or 18th century.

The Fleringen war memorial was inaugurated in 1953. It commemorates 53 local war dead and missing persons.

Roman finds have been reported at named locations: near Auf Bettingen, between Dirren Wies and Fleringer Mühl, near Krausbuch, and above Krausbuch in the direction of the lime kilns. The Roman settlement is associated with the Fleringen limestone basin along a Roman military road; limestone and iron deposits occur there.
